The UPND is a Liberal Social Democratic party founded in 1998. It is managed by  National Executive and National Management committees as the highest policy making bodies for the day to day running of the party.

Its policies are pro - poor with the intention of improving the quality of life of people through the creation of conditions that bring food to the table at house hold level. It has a robust plan to create jobs with better pay.

The party believes that education is the best economic policy and thus shall offers free education opportunities as a way to empower the entire nation with a key to economic and social independence
